The new Bedrock preview adds sittable cushions, one-use straw beds and livelier forest camps. Here's what we like, what to try first and what it means for creators.
The latest Bedrock preview is a small one, but it has a lovely theme: camping. New items for resting and sitting, better abandoned camps and forests that feel a bit more alive. Here's what's in it and what we think.
The Cushion is the star for us. You can place it and sit on it, which makes campsites, houses and roleplay builds feel lived in straight away.
Builder tip: put a few in different colours around a campfire. It's a quick way to make a scene look finished.
The Straw Bed lets you sleep through the night without changing your spawn point. The catch is that it breaks after one use. It's crafted from hay bales.
We think this is a smart addition. Anyone who has slept in a random bed far from home and then respawned in the middle of nowhere will see the point. Carry a couple on long trips and your home spawn stays put.
Abandoned camps can now show up in more forest-type areas, can include straw beds and generate with procedural trees, so they blend into the landscape better. Forests also got adjusted fog, updated leaf textures and new ambient sounds. It's subtle, but it changes the mood when you walk through.
Leaves render better, door and sign textures were cleaned up, the missing wool stair and slab recipes are finally there, and a few visual issues on Android were fixed.
Rotation features are easier to use, custom block rendering got improvements, editor tools received fixes, and there are new options for cinematic tools, images, sounds, blocks and world editing.
What this means for you:
This is a preview, so things can still change or be removed before the full release. Don't test it in your main world. Make a copy first.
We'd love to see cushions on more surfaces, and maybe a straw bed you can pack up again. Would you use them in your builds? Tell us in the comments.
