26.3 Snapshot 2: Better Transparency, Mob Tweaks and New Technical Changes
Improves transparency rendering, optimizes mob behavior, adds new data pack and resource pack changes, and fixes many visual bugs with water, particles, clouds, entities and translucent blocks.
MC 26.3 Snapshot 2 is here, bringing a fresh set of visual improvements, gameplay tweaks, technical updates and bug fixes for Java Edition.
Better transparency rendering
The biggest change in this snapshot is a new order-independent transparency system. This replaces the older “Improved Transparency” approach and is designed to make translucent objects render more correctly.
That means things like water, particles, clouds, transparent blocks and entities should behave better when seen through glass, slime, water, effects or other transparent objects.
Mob behavior improvements
Mobs also received some small but useful behavior changes. Persistent mobs now stop random walking or swimming when players are not nearby, similar to normal mobs. This should help reduce unnecessary behavior processing in the background.
Drowned holding Tridents also got adjusted: if the player is within 3 blocks, they will now use a melee attack instead of only relying on ranged behavior.
Gameplay tweaks
There is also a small shield interaction change. When using a Shield together with a Hoe or Shovel, raising the Shield now takes priority over tilling or pathmaking.
New technical changes
This snapshot updates the technical side too. The Data Pack version is now 109.0 and the Resource Pack version is now 90.0. New data components, world generation feature changes, block predicates, particle textures and shader updates were also added.
Lots of bug fixes
Many fixes focus on transparency problems, including issues where mobs, particles, clouds, water, items, text displays and transparent blocks rendered incorrectly behind other translucent objects.
There are also fixes for shelf mushrooms, poplar saplings, wool slabs and stairs, carpets, boats, dolphins and other gameplay or rendering issues.
Important note
Snapshots are test versions and may contain bugs. If you try this version, make sure to backup your world or test it in a separate folder.
Happy mining!
